A very warm welcome is extended to Dr. LeAnne Petherick as she takes up her position as Assistant Professor (Physical Education) in the Department of Curriculum and Pedagogy. LeAnne graduated from the University of Toronto with a PhD and from Memorial University with a Masters of Physical Education. Prior to joining the University of British Columbia, LeAnne had tenure-track positions at the University of Manitoba and Memorial University of Newfoundland where she worked in the multi-disciplinary Faculty of Kinesiology and across programs in Kinesiology, Physical Education and Recreation Management.
The Faculty of Education at UBC will afford LeAnne the opportunity to merge her scholarly passions for health and human movement. Motivated by a social justice orientation to health and firmly committed to the transformative potential of movement, LeAnne’s research program draws on a feminist post-structural lens to examine curriculum policy and pedagogy, planned and lived, in health and physical education. LeAnne’s work has been funded by Canadian Institute for Health Research (CIHR) and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).
Congratulations on your appointment, LeAnne. We are delighted to have you and look forward to working alongside you in the years to come!
Best, Anne
