Virtual Education Commons (VEC)

Virtual Education Commons (VEC) is a virtual environment for educational use only. This environment is a standalone Open Sim virtual world, and the server is located in UBC.

This environment invites K–12 and higher education educators to participate. Educators are welcome to conduct research and to teach in the VEC. Currently, there are six regions in the VEC. Educators are welcome to request specific region for their own education related purpose.

The six regions include: Orientation Island, Virtual Campus, K–12 Happy Land, International Connection, Residential Villa, and Exploration Island.

Orientation Island is a place for users to learn how to get around and to know the places in VEC.

Virtual Classrooms is the region for teaching and researching graduate courses.

K-12 Happy Land is the region for teachers with K-12 students. This region is also considered to host a Virtual Room 13 Project.

International Connection is a place for educators, teachers, and students to create connection with the world for experiment, collaborate, and research together.

Residential Villa is a place for all users to apply and use as their virtual home.

Exploration Island is a hidden area for users to explore. This island is also prepared to host future events.
