Sports Science Education Research: Masters & Seniors’ Small-sided Football Coaching
Drawing on longitudinal research, Harry and colleagues have published extensive articles and have been invited to give presentations (including FIFA & UEFA HQ Switzerland) pertaining to International-Regional-Local Perspectives of 50-70+ Small-sided Football Competition; Customised Coach Education and Game Design; Team and Player Development; Performance Analysis; and, Integrated Football and Health Promotion in diverse (recreational, intermediate and advanced-level) masters and seniors’ small-sided football contexts around the world. Harry is the Head Coach of the INTER UBC Masters 5v5/Futsal Research & Soccer Academy Program (1999-Present), and founding Chairperson of the annual International Masters 5-a-side/Futsal World Cup and Symposium (2006-2022). Under Harry’s leadership, the 2022 (and subsequent 2023 bid) International (60+ & 65+) Super Masters 5-a-side/futsal World Cup Football Tournaments was hosted at the Home of FIFA, Fédération Internationale de Football Association, Zurich, Switzerland; and the International (60+) 4-a-side World Cup Football Tournament was hosted at Doha College Stadium, Qatar, during the FIFA 2022 World Cup event in Qatar; and the 2026 Invitational 1-day Amateur International Over-65s 4-a-side Mini-World Cup Tournament will be held in Vancouver Canada, during the FIFA 2026 World Cup. Harry was invited by the Oceania Football Federation, NZF, Australia FA and UEFA to host grassroots coach education clinics and coaching sessions on masters and seniors’ small-sided football in New Zealand, Australia and Europe respectively.

Research Interests
Supervision duties centre on the formal supervision and mentoring, annually, of large numbers of graduating academic leaders within the context of the International Program for the Scholarship of Educational Leadership (SoEL). Over 550 UBC and international program graduates include Program Directors, Associate Deans, Curriculum and Pedagogical Leaders, Teaching Award Winners, Tenured faculty members/Professors of Teaching, Senior Administrators and P&T Committee Personnel from multi-institutional and multi-disciplinary settings (e.g., Australia, Bahrain, Canada, China, England, Iceland, Japan, New Zealand, Qatar, Scotland, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Thailand, UAE, USA, and The West Indies). UBC Certification based on successful completion of a graduation SoEL ePortfolio and external review. Further, program graduates have made significant leadership and scholarship contributions to educational practice in a wide range of peer-reviewed contexts around the world.
