Dodgeball Paper

Dear Colleagues,

Almost one year ago (June 7, 2019 to be exact), before the passing of our colleague, the late Professor Joy Butler, I shared with the EDCP community about the many interviews she had given to various local, national and international media (TV, radio and newspaper) on an important topic of bullying as regards Dodgeball game, common in many school PE curricula.
https://edcp.educ.ubc.ca/professor-joy-butlers-perspectives-on-bullying-and-dodgeball-game/

Professor Butler’s great insights about the topic have now been published in the following paper.

J Butler, DP Burns, C Robson (2020). Dodgeball: Inadvertently teaching oppression in physical and health education.  European Physical Education Review, 1356336X20915936
https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/1356336X20915936?journalCode=epea

Feel free to consider it as one of the critical readings in your class discourses.

Best, Samson.

Dr. Samson Nashon, EdD
Department Head & Professor of Science Education
