Event Spotlight: BC Brightest Minds 2014

On April 29, we once again organized BC Brightest Minds Event at PNE – Playland. It was the 9th year of the collaboration between PNE and the Department of Curriculum and Pedagogy that aims to inspire students in physics (the event was initiated by Dr. Nashon and Dr. Anderson in 2006). The event attracted 19 teams from all over BC. It was a beautiful sunny day to hold such an outdoor activity. Unlike the last years, we also involved five science teacher-candidates who were happy to learn about science outreach. Once again we were supported by our own graduate students: Ashley Welsh and Guopeng Fu, who also brought their friends. As always Doug Adler and Dan Phelps were there to lead the marking teams.

This year the first place was won by the team from Windermere Secondary School, York House school students were second and Prince of Wales were third.

BC Brightest Minds 2

We would like to congratulate everybody with a successful event that helps us bring exciting science to BC students.

BC Brightest Minds 3

We were interviewed by local media stations, CTV News, and other local radio stations.

Additional photos from the event can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152746346298362.1073741961.643353361&type=1&l=31575b12c3

On behalf of the BC Brightest Mind Organizing Committee that included Dr. Nashon and myself, I would like to thank everybody who helped us to make it happen.
