It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the passing of Dr. Mary Leah De Zwart on February 21, 2026.
Dr. Mary Leah De Zwart was seconded to UBC Faculty of Education in 2009 as an adjunct Teaching Professor and Home Economics Education coordinator, in the Department of Curriculum and Pedagogy until her retirement in 2024. Together with Dr. Gale Smith, she developed the on-line Masters program in Home Economics (HEEL). She wrote and taught 3 courses in the program and co-supervised graduating papers of over 80 students. She retired in 2024. Dr. De Zewart made substantial contributions to Home Economics Education within the Department of Curriculum and Pedagogy and leaving a legacy for the field.
Dr. Mary Leah De Zwart will be greatly missed!
