We had a very successful 39th UBC Physics Olympics on Saturday, March 4, 2017. Next year we will hold 40th UBC Physics Olympics – so it has become an amazing tradition. As always EDCP and the Department of Physics and Astronomy collaborated on the event. We had 69 teams with about 8 students per team (it was the highest level of participation ever). The teams came from all over BC as you can see from the map: http://physoly.phas.ubc.ca/ Some even flew to attend (a team from Terrace). It was exciting to see that many of my own students (our own physics teacher graduates) now bring their teams to UBC.
The event was also featured in UBC news:

This was a very successful public outreach event and once again it placed our Faculty in a very positive light. We have heard many comments of gratitude from teachers, parents and students.
We hope that this event will bring more excellent physics teachers into our graduate programs. This event is a collaboration between the Faculty of Science (Department of Physics and Astronomy) and the Faculty of Education (Department of Curriculum and Pedagogy) and it is supported by the EDCP Rex Boughton Fund.
