We are pleased to announce the 2023-2024 Peer Advisor Team:


Vicente Regis

PhD Student

September 2023 – April 2024

Vicente embraced artistic endeavours when he was a child, growing up playing with his brother and friends in the streets of São Paulo, Brazil. His professional life started as a legal educator, working with kids in conflict with the judiciary system. After an intense process of self-examination, he became a music educator and worked in Brazilian Social-constructivist schools for fifteen years. Five years ago, he came to UBC to pursue my graduate studies and raise my children in Canada. He got a MA in Media and Technology Education Studies and he is currently pursuing a PhD in Curriculum Studies. His current study focus is on musicality, autobiography and poetry.


Patricia Unung

PhD Student

September 2023 – April 2024

Patricia is an EDCP Ph.D student with specialty in Home Economics Education. Her B. Sc. (Ed.) and M. Sc. (Ed.) in Home Economics Education respectively, were obtained from the University of Uyo, Nigeria. The onset of her career path began with tutoring a primary class for a term in Monef kiddies school after her first degree, with progression in subsequent term to teach Home Economics at Monef High school for four years, doubling as boarding mistress in same school. After herMasters degree Award in 2014, she took on a Home Economics lecturing appointment same year in the Faculty of Education at the University of Uyo. She continued in same career until she had admission to pursue a PhD program at the University of British Columbia.


Yasaman Moussavi

PhD Student

September – December 2023

Yasaman is a PhD student in Art education. She holds an MFA with two emphases on Painting and Printmaking from Texas Tech University. She also holds a MA in Art Studies from Tehran University, Iran, and a BFA in Painting from Alzahra University Tehran, Iran.


Laura Duarte

MEd Student

September 2023 – April 2024

Laura is a MEd student in Science Education. She is from Bogotá, Colombia, where she obtained her BSc in biology from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. She is passionate about elementary science and environmental education, especially in rural communities. Place based education and ecopedagogy are some of her research interests. 


Majedeh Miresmaeli

MEd Student

September 2023 – April 2024

Majedeh is a second-year master’s student in Art Education. She is an international student from Iran. Her journey into the world of art began at a young age when she discovered a connection with making crafts. She obtained her BA and MA degrees in Handicrafts from her homeland and she is a woodcrafts freelance artist.
