Fifth Beijing Science Festival

During September 13 – 16, 2018, I represented UBC Faculty of Education (and Canada) at the Fifth Beijing Science Festival. It is hard to describe the scale of the event. It is about 800 times bigger than our UBC Family Math and Science Day and hundreds of companies, educational institutions and governmental agencies take part in it. It took place at the Beijing Olympic Stadium. They have about 250,000-300,000 visitors during the four days of the Festival.

Every country was invited to have one booth of science activities to inspire young people. The booth of science experiments I brought was very popular and the organizers already invited us to come again next year (as two people per country are invited, I hope somebody else will join me).

Considering that this is the biggest science festival in China, it is very exciting we were represented (together with the US, many European, Asian and African countries).  This festival is a wonderful opportunity to meet inspiring science educators from all over the world and to showcase what we do here.
