About Us

EDCP is an academic unit characterized by theoretical depth, methodological diversity, and innovative praxiological and practice-orientated programming.

The Department of Curriculum & Pedagogy (EDCP) at UBC is committed to advancing research into learning and teaching in a variety of contexts and across the lifespan. In addition to addressing many of the curriculum areas represented in public education, we also focus on transdisciplinary areas of scholarly inquiry such as curriculum theory, design and evaluation, teacher education, digital media and learning technologies, curriculum and pedagogy in higher education, and learning and teaching in informal educational settings.

We offer a number of graduate programs at both the Master’s and PhD level, some of which are structured as research-themed cohorts. As well, we are developing a variety of Curriculum and Pedagogy Summer Institutes for practicing teachers where 3–6 credits of coursework can be completed in a 1- or 2-week research-based experience in a number of curriculum areas including, for example, Art Education, Mathematics Education, Physical Education, or Technology Studies. In order to get a sense of the range and variety of experiences we offer, please check out both the Graduate Programs section of our site, and also the Summer Institute and cohort-based graduate programs we offer through our Faculty’s Office of Professional Development & Community Engagement . In addition to our various graduate program offerings, we offer curriculum and pedagogy courses in the Faculty’s Teacher Education Program.
